Finale

In reaching the end of the semester, I find myself looking at things a little different. When speaking with "outsiders" about my major, they have realized that architects, and especially architecture students, look at this differently than the rest of the world. We see in shapes and colors and the "why" of things aesthetically. No one else seeems to loook and things quite like we do. What we hold true to us it an artform like no other. To fully embrace a career in architecture you have to love it by this point and while in school make serious sacrafices. It is only then that you can make yourself truly successful.... In summary (and I'm not alone on this one) throughout the sleepless nights and the numerous cuts from those exacto knives... I LOVE IT!!

Feedback

Earlier I wrote that every move in architecture needs to be made on purpose. After our presentations and reviews yesterday, I feel like i can expound on moves in architecture and having a purpose. Before the move is made there needs to be a purpose. This idea is opposed to making a move and deciding on a purpose for it. For example, when you draw a line, you need to have in mind what the purpose of this line is. When this happens, the character of the line is breathes through it. If the purpose is to convey a message, then the message needs to be predetermined. In the graphic above, the artist knew that the outcome of the drawing would resemble a vase.

The Ground is UP

An old architect once told me that in architecture, you need to make every decision on purpose. Every move that we make must have a reason. When it comes to simply looking good, that just doesnt cut it in third year architecture school.... anywhere as a matter of fact. As I have stated before, the limits of my imagination are being tested like they never have been before. The attention to the slightest moves takes a critical eye that I havent used before. In answering the claim to justify that curve I simply could not come up with an answer. After careful contemplation and a few study models... its justified. There is a reason for everything.

The Limits of Our Imagination

From studio assignments to Studio Disney.... these next few months (or semesters) are going to push the limits of my imagination to where is NEVER gone before. From these first few weeks of classes starting, I can already tell that I'm going to have to venture into a whole new world of imagining. I'm going to have to have to soar to new hieights in my innovative skills and produce like I've never produced before. I don't know if my practical work experience has limited my ability to produce in the limiteless realm architecture school, but after hours of contemplation, I am realizing that the sky is the limit of our imagination as students. The third year of architecture school means that we are going to have to push beyond the thought of four walls and a roof and venture into the why... Why is it that four walls make a space, not just two, or why not just a roof. The neverending questioning and editing of our work is the catalyst to a great desinger. I've always been told to ask questions.... I guess its time that I listen to that voice and start asking.
